Iranian media report that Birgadier-General Azizollah Rajabzadeh, Head of Tehran Police retires after only six months at this post. He has reportedly been in the police service for 36 years and his valediction ceremony will take place tomorrow, Sunday.

Rajabzadeh took over from Ahmad-Reza Radan in the September of 2009. Prior to that, he was head of police special forces.

In the course of protests against the June presidential elections, he was in charge of police confrontation with protesters. Reformist website Norooz reports that following the Ashura Day protests on December 27, Rajabzadeh was summoned by the judiciary and interrogated for over two hours.

In the Ashura Day events, eight people were killed. A video clip posted on the internet showed a police car running people over and passing over them.

The Police Department primarily rejected the charges and claimed there is no such evidence. After the clip was posted on the internet, they announced it was fabricated.

Iran’s regime is not chosen by Iranian people. They kill and torture us and we are all in a very big prison named Iran.”
